Avigayil, the daughter of Israeli TV personalities Eden Harel and Oded Menashe, celebrated her bat mitzvah last night.
The inspiring blessing offered by Rabbanit Hagit Shira at the event is an important reminder and blessing for all of us, especially as we prepare for the upcoming holiday of Shavuot, Zman Matan Torateinu—The Time of the Giving of our Torah:
“Avigayil, you are a link in the long chain that began with our matriarchs.
Our mother Sarah was able to find the good every day, even during times of crisis. May you learn this strength from her.
Our mother Rivka had the ability to distinguish between Yaakov and Esav, between good and evil. This is a sense that exists within each one of us. Use it well to choose what is good, holy, and true.
Our mother Rachel taught us the value of silence and the importance of knowing when to give up what we want in order to save another person from embarrassment. May you learn when it is appropriate to follow in her footsteps.
Our mother Leah was the 'mother of many children', and raised her sons to become the leaders of the tribes of Israel. May you also merit to have righteous children.
It is important to remember that our mothers continue to give us strength, even if we don’t always see it.”
Mazal tov, Avigayil. May you cherish all these treasures that have been passed down to you.
And may all of us, at every age, remember our strong roots and the gifts bequeathed to us by our ancestors.
