* Translation by Yehoshua Siskin
Yesterday evening I lit a candle for Moshe Rabbeinu, who passed away on the 7th of Adar.
Rabbi Eliyahu Ki-tov, in his magnificent Sefer HaTodaah (translated into English as “The Book of our Heritage”) wrote the following:
“From Moshe we learn to look forward to salvation.
He was born at a time of enslavement and harsh decrees, when all of Am Yisrael was in despair.
After his birth, he personally suffered from the wrath of Egypt. He was thrown into the waters of the Nile and yet, after being saved, danger persisted.
He lived in the palace of Pharaoh even while the nation of Israel endured unbearable affliction and suffering. And then, finally, he rescued Am Yisrael and enlightened the entire world for all generations to come.
At that time, Indomitable faith lived in every Jewish heart.
Let us too learn how much all of us at any moment can be strengthened by faith in our imminent salvation.”
