The fifth day of Chanukah is special because it marks a turning point: from this night forward, most of the Chanukiah will be lit and the light will vanquish the darkness. Yesterday it was still 4 (light):4 (darkness); now we are 5:3.
This process is important to keep in mind especially during these challenging times: On the first night of Chanukah, only one light outshone the vast darkness, but we are slowly making progress, step by step. The Jewish people are on a journey, and so is each one of us personally. We just need to have patience.
It is most fitting to pray in front of the candles, dedicating ourselves to adding light in all areas of our lives. After all, the lighting of the Chanukiah is not merely a technical exercise, but a reminder of our faith and hope for the future.
