It’s not allowed to publish his picture due his position in a special forces unit in the IDF, so we’re only showing a picture of his hand. He suffered a critical injury while fighting on Simchat Torah and just sent me the picture below with the following message:
“Shalom Sivan, It’s not by chance that people are now looking to increase the light around them. This is the darkest time of the year with long, cold nights. Those in other countries also increase light at this time, as witnessed by the lights that decorate their homes, buildings, and trees.
But unlike those in other nations, our lights are not revealed all at once, but rather during an eight-day period. In my humble opinion, beyond the fact that the way we increase light is consistent with Halacha, this is meant to educate us to believe in processes — to understand that anything authentic and lasting takes time. We must have faith, be persistent, and work hard in order for a miracle to finally appear.
There are so many wounded who are presently engaged in the laborious rehabilitation process, including me. It is important for me to publicize this simple message for all of us: Have faith in the process! If it were only possible — in one second — to disconnect from all the tubes, to throw away the crutches, or to stop the constant pain.
But in order to create light that has staying power, patience is required, and I speak from having endured more than a year of rehabilitation. One day after the next, one candle after the next, until a light that pierces the deepest darkness can radiate for all to see.”
