One small step... and then another

חשיבות צעדים קטנים

* Translation by Yehoshua Siskin

What is pictured below is what these 49 days of Sefirat HaOmer (counting the Omer) are all about.

Each day, we count one more day for seven weeks, commemorating the days between leaving Egypt on Pesach and receiving the Torah at Mount Sinai on Shavuot.

We learn from this that a meaningful life moves forward with slow but steady progress. We cannot just jump quickly ahead. Holiness is attained step by step.

The Kabbalists explain that the 49 days of Sefirat HaOmer are meant to address and, where needed, rectify seven aspects of seven character traits. Self-refinement happens gradually. The idea is to reach the holiday of Shavuot in a purified and holy state and thus be deserving of receiving the Torah.

You are invited to share the picture below with others who may need a reminder that when we set out to reach a lofty goal, it is best to take a ladder with closely spaced rungs to get there... Good luck!
